Two Teams Uniting for the KINGDOM!

Sunday
There was not a team here in the morning, however the staff were able to be the serve team at church. We were at the church from 10 till 1230. I got the opportunity to be a greeter and when you are a greeter in Costa you get to do a lot of "Tico kisses". Let's say, I got it down now! The new team from Alabama came shortly after church got over at 1:30. We had a late lunch, then orientation and then we went for a prayer walk around the neighborhoods they will be doing sports camps in.

Monday
In the morning we went to Verbena community to scope out where the team wanted to have the soccer camp at. We decided on a location and then we played with the kids the rest of the morning in that location. There were a lot of kids that came up and played soccer with us and it was the start of a great week in Verbena. We then went back to the church for the homless feeding center and the team served the men and women the food.
In the afternoon we went to the community of San Martin, where we played basketball and soccer with some neighborhood kids that always play with us as well as some other kids ministry.
We finished out the day with dinner and chapel.

Tuesday
The Mt. Gilead team went to Verbena for the first day of soccer camps for the week. There was a good turn out as there was about 40 kids. The team did drills with the group, split them up for a little while and then ended the day with 4on4. We were also able to hand out snacks and drinks to all the kids and at the same time one of the team members was able to give a short Bible lesson.
After lunch, we were able to go to the community that we had built a house at just last week, Conception. We played there for the rest of the afternoon with the kids and had an amazing tico verse gringo game in soccer going!
Kids getting ready to play soccer in Verbena - Tuesday
Wednesday
We were able to to go back to Verbena and have our soccer camp again. The turnout was about 40 kids again, but there was some new kids because of the school schedule here in Costa Rica. We did most of the same drills with the kids and snacks and message like on Tuesday. I definitely had fun playing with the Ticos and so did the whole team!
In the afternoon we went to Tejado, which is a community on the side of the mountain that is closest to us. We went to play with kids there and were able to round up some kids. We also ran into a gringo group that was doing some ministry called, "Score". It was cool to get to take to others on different trips and how they did things and what their experience has been like. Its always a welcome site to see gringos while walking out in the streets, it is rare!
The ABC Trio was able to play for worship tonight at chapel. I had so much fun playing the djembe drum and worshiping, such a great experience!

Thursday
We had the team go to Verbena again for the soccer camp, where we had a very good turn out and we were able to play with the kids through noon.
In the afternoon the team and some of 6:8 staff as well as myself went to San Jose. We then got home just in time to share the chapel service with the Celebration team that has been here alongside Mt. Gilead.

Friday
The Mt. Gilead team had their fun day. Karen and Dan went with the team and they were able to have a blast on their fun day! Meanwhile, the 6:8 staff went to the homeless feeding center at the church and got to feed over 30 men and women. After the feeding center myself and others went to Pali to get some food and then later at night we had the adventure of riding the bus to Escazu (Rich, Gringo area of San Jose Valley) where we went out to eat at Wendys and walked in the mall.

Saturday
In the morning we had the opportunity to have the teams last day in Verbena again. On the way to Verbena we were able to go through the farmers market, that is always an experience! We played with the kids again. Some doing crafts and others playing soccer with the kids. We were all preparing for the big tourney in the afternoon, Ticos vs. Gringos game! At 11 we were able to help out with the Feeding Center with Celebration Church team joining us as well. There was more kids there than usual, it was great!

Feeding the kids hot dogs - Saturday
In the afternoon, we brought cookies, chips, drinks and hot dogs down to Verbena again and started our soccer tourney. We had 2 gringo teams and like 4 tico teams. The gringo team I was on went 0-1-1, which was not our best showing, gringos aren't made for soccer, even if one of the gringos on the team played and started varsity soccer for 4 years in High School.... Ticos Rule! All in all the Ticos did come up on top. At the end the Mt. Gilead team had jerseys to hand out as well as the hot dogs. While that was happening, Dustin (One that set up a lot of the soccer camp stuff and was great all week!!) gave a short Gospel message to everyone. It was a little crazy at the end but all in all it was a great end to the soccer camps!
We ended the day with chapel with both teams and then the Mt. Gilead team got to have debrief, which I had the opportunity to lead and give a few short encouraging words.
All in all, it was an amazing week filled with the ups and downs of being sick with a virus, to the joys of playing with the kids in Verbena and the Tico vs. Gringo games.

Another team has came and gone, lives will forever be changed and God has moved. There are people out there living out the Gospel and I love getting to see different people doing it every week here in Costa! You can make a difference where you are though, so get involved!
I have realized many times while being down here that I am living a dream and vision that I have had for a long time. Its amazing to be able to be here in Costa and BIG shout out to all my supporters that made this all possible, you are just as responsible for all of this ministry as myself and the 6:8 Team!

Until Next Time
God Bless,
Cody Perman
