Rescued by Christ

Sunday We went to church and two of the intern staff had a chance to be in the praise band during church. Allison and Kyle did an amazing job and I may be bias here but this weeks worship was the best so far! Worship Band with Gringos (Kyle and Allison) Sunday Morning  In the afternoon we went to San Jose with the Fuse team. We got to do a prayer walk around the Hotel Del Rey. The Hotel Del Rey is the biggest brothel in this hemisphere. Prostitution is not illegal in Costa Rica, and so one day many years ago some Gringo (who, by the way, has a wife and a daughter) decided that it would be a good idea to open up a hotel/casino/bar in the middle of San Jose where women could be hired to show off and sell their bodies to middle aged men for the U.S. As far as prostitution goes, the Del Rey is the best of the best for the women in the business. When the girls work at the Del Rey, they get the title of "prostitute" placed on their ID's. That title enables them to

Costa Rica... My Home

Its been a crazy 10 days since I last updated my blog. I have chosen to do my blog a little different this time, more of a summary than anything, so bare with me. Since last time, there has been 3 different teams here and two of which have left us. Both of the groups that came early last week were St. Marks and Celebration Fuse team both from Jacksonville. St. Marks had 29 people, whereas Fuse had 9. I was able to work with St. Marks most of the time but also worked with Fuse for two full days. We did so many different things. The St.Marks team went to the cafetal, which is a part of Alajuelita everyone throws their trash. It was an old coffee field that has turned into something that is a stronghold for many in this community. It is 2 block off the central Catholic church and it is where all the homeless sleep, do/sell drugs. However, that isn't even the worst part about it, prostitution isn't illegal in Costa Rica, therefor making it legal and the Cafetal is a place that g

Sunday There was not a team here in the morning, however the staff were able to be the serve team at church. We were at the church from 10 till 1230. I got the opportunity to be a greeter and when you are a greeter in Costa you get to do a lot of "Tico kisses". Let's say, I got it down now! The new team from Alabama came shortly after church got over at 1:30. We had a late lunch, then orientation and then we went for a prayer walk around the neighborhoods they will be doing sports camps in. Monday In the morning we went to Verbena community to scope out where the team wanted to have the soccer camp at. We decided on a location and then we played with the kids the rest of the morning in that location. There were a lot of kids that came up and played soccer with us and it was the start of a great week in Verbena. We then went back to the church for the homless feeding center and the team served the men and women the food. In the afternoon we went to the community of Sa

Sunday The new team arrived from Mississippi and we got to have orientation right before church and then we were able to attend church. Church this week was translated by Danny so it was great to be able to understand a message from Pastor Miguel. He talked about how we need to stop living in our past and what we did before Christ and start focusing on what is ahead and what God has for us today. Mississippi Team posing at House Build Site - Monday In the afternoon after we ate we went out for a prayer walk. We went to the park, Cafetal and our house build site and prayed over all the sites. We ended the day in the park playing with kids that were around. Monday We split into two different teams. One team doing construction and one doing social children ministry. The girls went to San Martin and played with the kids. While the men went to the build site and started with the concrete foundation for the house. After playing with the kids, we went to the homeless feeding center a
